Unbeaten Jacobe Smith bloodies Randy Brown to stay perfect at UFC Vegas 123
Jacobe Smith extended his undefeated UFC record to 5-0 with a dominant wrestling-based decision over Randy Brown at UFC Vegas 123 on Saturday, sweeping all three judges 30-26 after opening a nasty cut on Brown's head with a sharp elbow in the second round.
Jacobe Smith remained undefeated in the UFC with a commanding unanimous decision over Randy Brown at UFC Vegas 123 on Saturday, sweeping all three judges 30-26 to move to 5-0 inside the organisation.
Smith controlled the fight almost entirely through wrestling, repeatedly dragging Brown to the canvas and punishing him with ground and pound. The most decisive moment came in the second round when a sharp elbow opened a deep gash on Brown’s head that bled heavily for the remainder of the contest, shifting any remaining doubt about the outcome.
Brown, a seasoned veteran, used his reach and footwork effectively in the early exchanges, keeping Smith at range with kicks and preventing him from pinning him against the fence. Smith, however, was patient — chipping away with leg kicks before exploding forward for his first takedown of the night to close out the opening round.
The second round followed a similar pattern. Smith secured another takedown and this time unleashed a barrage of elbows from top position, including the shot that split Brown open. The cut was severe enough to draw immediate attention from the cageside physician, though the fight was allowed to continue.
In the third, Smith showed a willingness to stand and trade before abandoning that idea in favour of a powerful double-leg takedown. He spent the final five minutes grinding Brown down with body shots and positional control until the final horn.
“It just solidifies the greatness and the hard work with the people I surround myself with,” Smith said after the fight. “I just feel like I’m good everywhere and I can do whatever. Give me somebody. Ya’ll got [Gabriel] Bonfim? Sean Brady?”
Now 5-0 in the UFC, Smith is openly calling for top-15 welterweight competition, and Saturday’s performance — disciplined, physical, and tactically sound — made a credible case that he is ready for that step up.
