Julian Erosa walked away from MMA on his own terms on Saturday night, knocking out Jeong Yeong Lee in the first round of a preliminary bout at UFC Vegas 123 to cap a career that spanned 19 UFC appearances across three separate stints in the promotion.

Erosa had made his intentions clear before the fight: he would retire win, lose, or draw. The outcome could not have been scripted better. Lee caught him early with a sharp left hook that sent Erosa stumbling backwards, but “Juicy J” steadied himself, then answered with a looping right hook that dropped his opponent. Erosa swarmed with follow-up ground strikes to seal the stoppage and close the book on his fighting career.

Speaking after the win, Erosa pointed to fatherhood as the driving force behind his decision to step away. “It’s amazing, man. When I had my son, my priorities switched around,” he said. “Fighting was everything to me; I had my son, so he’s everything to me. Fighting was always going to be there, but he’s always going to be there, and I want to be in his life for as long as possible with as many brain cells as I have so I can see his kids grow up.”

Erosa retires with an overall MMA record of 32-13, making him one of the more durable and well-travelled fighters of his generation. He is among a small group of fighters to have competed on both Dana White’s Contender Series and The Ultimate Fighter, a distinction that underlines the winding road he took to build a near-two-decade career in the sport.
