World Cup 2026 squads confirmed: Every player named for the summer tournament
All 48 nations must submit their final 26-man squads to FIFA by 2 June ahead of the World Cup, which begins on 11 June in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thomas Tuchel has named his England group, with Brazil, Spain, France and Germany also confirmed.
The vast majority of the 48 nations competing at World Cup 2026 have now submitted their final squads to FIFA, with the deadline for all countries set at 2 June and the tournament opening on 11 June across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Each squad must contain between 23 and 26 players, including at least three goalkeepers, and any player ruled out through injury after submission can only be replaced from a previously lodged 55-man preliminary list — and only up to 24 hours before the team’s first match.
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed his 26-man England squad, joining the coaches of Brazil, Spain, France and Germany in finalising their selections. A small number of nations are waiting until the deadline before announcing their groups.
Among the standout stories from the squads already revealed, Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa becomes only the third player in history — alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo — to be selected for a sixth World Cup. The 40-year-old, currently at AEL Limassol, is unlikely to be first choice under coach Javier Aguirre. West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, who spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, will captain Mexico, with Fulham striker Raul Jimenez leading the attack and 17-year-old Tijuana forward Gilberto Mora set to become the youngest player ever to represent Mexico at a World Cup.
South Africa return to the World Cup for the first time since 2010 with a squad in which 19 of the 26 players are based in the Rainbow Nation. Burnley striker Lyle Foster is the only British-based player in the group. Uncapped defenders Olwethu Makhanya of Philadelphia Union and Bradley Cross — a former Newcastle academy player who never made a senior appearance for the club — have both been included, while experienced goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who has 62 caps, captains the side.
With 48 teams involved for the first time in World Cup history, more players than ever will get the chance to compete in football’s most prestigious international tournament this summer.
