Manchester United’s interest in Crysencio Summerville has edged closer to reality, with West Ham reportedly targeting Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu as a direct replacement — a move that could remove one of the key obstacles blocking the Dutchman’s exit from east London.

The Hammers are understood to be demanding around £50 million for Summerville, who impressed throughout the 2025/26 season despite West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, contributing five goals and four assists in what was a difficult campaign for the club. United are among several elite clubs tracking the 23-year-old, with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Roma also credited with interest.

West Ham’s reluctance to sanction Summerville’s departure without securing a replacement has complicated matters for potential suitors. Fatawu, 22, has emerged as their preferred option to fill that void. The Ghanaian winger registered nine goals and eight assists for Leicester last season, but with the Foxes facing life in League One following back-to-back relegations, they may have little choice but to sell. Leicester are reported to be open to offers in the region of £15m to £20m, a fee that would be comfortably covered by the proceeds of a Summerville sale.

Fatawu is contracted at the King Power Stadium until 2029, but financial pressures could force Leicester’s hand. Everton, RB Leipzig and Besiktas have also been linked with the player, meaning West Ham will face competition if they move formally.

Summerville is not the only West Ham player on United’s radar this summer. The club are also reported to have agreed personal terms with 21-year-old midfielder Mateus Fernandes, though West Ham are holding firm on an £85 million asking price. Tottenham Hotspur, currently rebuilding their squad under incoming head coach Roberto De Zerbi, are also monitoring Fernandes should United balk at that valuation.

How quickly the Summerville situation develops may depend largely on whether West Ham can finalise their own recruitment — with the Fatawu pursuit now central to that timeline.
