West Ham eye Fatawu as Summerville replacement, clearing path for Man Utd move
Manchester United's pursuit of Crysencio Summerville has gained momentum after West Ham identified Leicester's Abdul Fatawu as a potential replacement. The Hammers are seeking around £50m for the Dutch winger, who attracted interest from AC Milan, PSG, Arsenal and Roma.
Manchester United’s bid to sign Crysencio Summerville has taken a significant step forward, with West Ham reportedly targeting Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu as his replacement — a move that could unlock the £50 million deal the Hammers are demanding for the Dutch international.
West Ham’s relegation to the Championship has placed several of their key players in the transfer spotlight. Summerville was one of the club’s standout performers throughout 2025/26, contributing five goals and four assists in what was an otherwise difficult season for the east London club. That form has drawn interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including AC Milan, PSG, Arsenal and Roma, in addition to United.
The Hammers have made clear they will not sanction Summerville’s departure until a suitable replacement is in place. Fatawu, 22, has emerged as their primary target. The Ghanaian winger enjoyed a productive campaign for Leicester, registering nine goals and eight assists, but the Foxes’ relegation to League One this season has left the club financially vulnerable and increasingly unable to retain their top talent.
Leicester hold Fatawu under contract until 2029, but reports suggest they would consider bids in the region of £15m to £20m to help stabilise their finances. That figure would be comfortably offset by any Summerville sale, leaving West Ham with funds to further bolster their squad as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.
Fatawu has attracted his own share of admirers, with Everton, RB Leipzig and Besiktas all reported to be monitoring the situation.
Summerville is not the only West Ham player United are pursuing this summer. The club are also understood to be moving for midfielder Mateus Fernandes, with reports indicating that personal terms have already been agreed with the 21-year-old. West Ham are holding out for £85m for Fernandes, and the outcome of those negotiations remains unresolved.
