Kyle Walker believes Trent Alexander-Arnold will eventually return to the Premier League, but not to Liverpool — tipping the right-back for a move to Manchester United or City instead, as Liverpool simultaneously emerge as contenders for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Alexander-Arnold, 28, has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at Real Madrid under José Mourinho since leaving Anfield on a free transfer, competing with summer signing Denzel Dumfries for minutes. Walker, speaking on talkSPORT, said he could see the England international heading back to England’s top flight, but questioned whether a Liverpool return was realistic given the circumstances of his exit.

“Why not?” Walker said when asked if he could see Alexander-Arnold back in the Premier League. “Can he go back to Liverpool with the way that he left? I’m not too sure. Do I see him at another club? He’s got to go to one of the big ones. Manchester United [or] Man City [for example].”

A move to City appears remote given the club’s ongoing situation surrounding alleged Premier League spending breaches. United, however, could have use for Alexander-Arnold’s quality on the right side of defence, and the prospect of joining a rival would only deepen the rift with sections of the Liverpool fanbase.

On the incoming front, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is reportedly monitoring Lamine Camara, the Senegal international who came agonisingly close to joining Chelsea last summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are “tracking” the Monaco midfielder ahead of a potential move.

Camara had reportedly completed a medical ahead of a £47.1 million switch to Chelsea before the deal collapsed on deadline day. The Blues’ failure to land him could now open the door for Liverpool to swoop, though a battle with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen may also be on the horizon.

Iraola’s side are building momentum on the pitch, having beaten Villarreal 4-3 in midweek to continue their Champions League campaign, before turning attention back to domestic matters with a Premier League clash against Brighton on Sunday.
