Vinicius Junior says Real Madrid must open contract talks as 2027 deal runs down
Vinicius Junior has confirmed he wants to stay at Real Madrid for the rest of his career but acknowledged that formal contract negotiations are yet to begin, with his current deal expiring in 2027 and interest from Saudi Arabia and Manchester City reported.
Vinicius Junior has publicly called on Real Madrid to open contract talks, telling Brazilian outlet Caze TV that he has never considered leaving the club but that both parties still need to sit down and agree terms on an extension.
The 25-year-old winger has one year remaining on his current deal after 2027, and the absence of a signed extension has fuelled speculation about his future at the Bernabéu. Saudi Arabian clubs have been linked with a move for some time, and Manchester City are also said to have made exploratory approaches in recent weeks.
“I’ve never imagined myself leaving Real Madrid,” Vinicius said. “I take advantage of every minute I’m here because it’s the club of my dreams. Now I’m one of the captains and that’s very important. I want to stay here all my life. I have a contract until 2027, I have to talk to Real Madrid and Real Madrid have to talk to me. The club is calm and so am I. The president trusts me and I trust him. We have to wait.”
Despite the uncertainty, sources within Real Madrid are said to believe the Brazilian will ultimately sign a new deal. Vinicius’s own words appear to support that reading — his tone was one of patience rather than discontent, and he framed the situation as a matter of timing rather than intent.
Beyond his club future, Vinicius is preparing for the 2026 World Cup, where he acknowledged that his performances for Brazil have not matched his club form in recent years. “At my club we play every three days and we can show it. With the national team it’s more difficult and I haven’t been at the same level. I know we’ve been letting people down, but the time has come for us all to row together, where we can change our history and bring the party back to our country.”
He added that he hopes the tournament will represent the peak of his career so far. “I hope that the eight games of the World Cup will be the best games of my life. Representing Brazil in football’s biggest tournament is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid, and I want to do everything I can to help my country win another World Cup.”
With the World Cup beginning in the summer of 2026 and his contract situation unresolved, the coming months will be among the most consequential of Vinicius’s career both on and off the pitch.
