Villa Park's North Stand demolished as 50,000-seat expansion reshapes Arsenal's Monday night backdrop

Aston Villa welcome Arsenal to a significantly altered Villa Park on Monday evening, with the stadium running at a temporary capacity of approximately 37,000 after the North Stand was shut for the full 2026/27 season to allow major construction work to begin.

The original North Stand roof has been completely removed, with internal demolition and foundation work now under way ahead of the installation of new structural wings. On matchdays, ball assistants will operate around the stand’s perimeter, and the club is exploring temporary pitch netting to separate the active building site from the playing area.

Once complete, the redevelopment will take Villa Park’s capacity beyond 50,000 spectators. The project’s timeline is tied directly to Euro 2028, with Aston Villa committed to having all facility upgrades finished in time for the ground to serve as a tournament venue.

Elsewhere inside the stadium, almost every seat in the Trinity Road Stand has been removed and replaced over the summer as part of a wider reconfiguration of the seating layout. A new press box has been installed in the stand, and a new player tunnel is planned for the corner where the Trinity Road Stand meets the North Stand.

A new premium hospitality space, called The Cross by Tom Sellers, has also opened in the corner between the Holte End and the Trinity Road Stand. The venue is operated by the two-Michelin-starred chef and offers a dedicated dining experience for corporate guests ahead of Monday’s 8pm kick-off.

Despite the reduced overall capacity, Aston Villa remain obligated under standard league regulations to provide a minimum allocation of 3,000 tickets for away supporters. The travelling Arsenal section remains fully operational for Monday’s fixture.
