West Ham sack Nuno Espirito Santo after back-to-back Championship defeats leave Hammers eighth
West Ham have dismissed manager Nuno Espirito Santo following consecutive home defeats to Southampton and West Brom in the Championship. The Hammers sit eighth after 13 games, with their promotion push having stalled.
West Ham have sacked manager Nuno Espirito Santo after consecutive Championship defeats left the club eighth in the table and their promotion campaign in serious doubt.
The Hammers lost back-to-back home games at the London Stadium, falling to Southampton and then West Brom, to trigger the decision after just 13 league matches into the season.
West Ham dropped into the second tier following relegation from the Premier League and appointed Nuno to lead their expected charge back to the top flight. However, the Portuguese manager has been unable to sustain the momentum required, and the club’s board moved swiftly after the second successive defeat on home soil.
With eight points separating the Hammers from the automatic promotion places, the club’s hierarchy decided a change in the dugout was necessary to revive their top-flight ambitions before the gap widens further.
