Ayden Heaven’s holiday Instagram post became an unlikely source of dressing-room entertainment this week, with a string of Manchester United teammates lining up to leave light-hearted comments on the young defender’s photos.

Heaven, who made 19 appearances for United during a season that ended with a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification under Michael Carrick, posted a series of holiday images to his 782,000 followers on Friday. The photos showed the 20-year-old wearing a gold chain engraved with his squad number, 26, while the location tag read ‘In Heaven’ with a smiley face.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes was among the first to respond, writing: “Why you delete my comment? Is that really fake.” Harry Maguire took aim at the jewellery, asking: “Did you get that chain in a McDonald’s happy meal?” Diogo Dalot directed his comment at Patrick Dorgu rather than Heaven directly, writing: “Buy your boy a belt, please.”

Joshua Zirkzee kept it brief with “Is he alright?”, while Bryan Mbeumo opted for two clown-face emojis. Tyrell Malacia, who is set to leave United this summer, was perhaps the most enthusiastic, writing: “HAHAHAHAHAHA what a legend.”

The episode fits a picture of Heaven as one of the squad’s more colourful personalities. Mason Mount, speaking in a recent interview with Jamie Redknapp, named the defender as the funniest person in the Old Trafford dressing room.

“I don’t want to say it, but it is Ayden,” Mount said. “He is just silly. He is a youngster and he is silly about everything. But you need that around the place and it keeps it very light at the training ground, but sometimes he needs to be put in his place and that happens. But he’s a really good character.”

Heaven played the full 90 minutes on seven occasions across the campaign, featuring in wins over Liverpool, Brentford, Chelsea and Newcastle.
