United target Summerville in £50m deal as Rashford's Barcelona dream collapses
Manchester United are monitoring West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as a potential Marcus Rashford replacement, with a £50m move dependent on West Ham first securing a winger of their own from Brighton.
Manchester United are tracking West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville as a priority attacking target this summer, with a potential £50m deal contingent on a chain of transfer activity that is now edging closer to completion.
Rashford’s hoped-for permanent move to Barcelona has fallen through, leaving the 28-year-old’s future unresolved. United have no intention of reintegrating him into their squad, and a second loan spell at the Catalan club has also been ruled out, meaning a sale this summer is the most likely outcome. The club have blocked approaches from Manchester City and Liverpool, while Arsenal have cooled their interest. Tottenham remain in the picture, and Rashford is open to another move abroad. His wages of £325,000 per week are expected to be as significant a hurdle as his reported £40m asking price.
Summerville, 24, is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup in North America, where he has scored twice and added an assist from the bench in his side’s opening two group games. His performances are drawing attention from elsewhere — Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be monitoring him, particularly if Bradley Barcola departs the Parc des Princes this summer.
For United’s move to progress, West Ham — relegated from the Premier League last season — need to bring in a wide player of their own. The London club have declared an interest in Brighton’s Amario Cozier-Duberry, a 21-year-old who spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and played a key role in their League One play-off promotion. West Ham are reported to be leading the race for his signature, and landing him would free the club to sanction Summerville’s departure.
There is no release clause in Summerville’s contract at West Ham, and his valuation of around £50m could rise further should he continue to impress for the Netherlands. United are aware of the competition for his signature and the complexity of the deal’s structure, but remain interested as they look to reshape their attacking options ahead of next season.
