United reject Barcelona loan as Rashford option expires and Summerville move advances
Barcelona's £26m option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently expired at midnight on Monday, and Manchester United have ruled out a second loan deal. Meanwhile, United are monitoring West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, valued at around £50m, as part of a potential double signing from the London club.
Manchester United have closed the door on another loan arrangement for Marcus Rashford after Barcelona’s £26m purchase option expired at midnight on Monday, with the club holding out for a permanent transfer fee instead.
Rashford spent the second half of last season at the Nou Camp, but reports from Spain suggest Barcelona are keen to bring him back on a further loan basis. United will not entertain that proposal. Although the club are comfortable with Rashford returning for pre-season, their preferred outcome is a full sale during the summer window.
On the inbound side, United are monitoring West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as they look to strengthen on the left flank. The 24-year-old Dutch international, valued at around £50m, is currently at the World Cup with the Netherlands and scored in their opening group-stage draw against Japan — a 2-2 result on Sunday. United had previously explored signing Antoine Semenyo in January to fill the same position.
Summerville’s potential arrival could form part of a double deal with West Ham, with Ineos chiefs already in advanced talks to sign Mateus Fernandes from the same club.
United have also tracked Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, though the Italian’s price tag presents a significant obstacle. Newcastle value Tonali at around £100m, and Tottenham are also reported to be in the market for him this summer, which is likely to complicate any approach.
In goal, Andre Onana’s future remains unresolved. Trabzonspor’s president has expressed confidence that the goalkeeper will return to the Turkish club, but no agreement is in place at this stage.
With United still hoping to sell players to offset the cost of incoming transfers, the shape of the squad heading into next season remains very much in flux.
