Manchester United are weighing a £28m move for Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson and reassessing the future of Marcus Rashford as the club prepares for Michael Carrick’s first full season in charge, with a return to the Champions League sharpening the need for reinforcements.

Robinson, 28, has emerged as a serious option to address a growing problem at left-back. Luke Shaw’s contract expires next summer and injury concerns persist, while Tyrell Malacia is also expected to depart. The American international has been a consistent performer at Craven Cottage since arriving in 2020 and is viewed as a potential long-term solution in that position.

In midfield, Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest is understood to be United’s primary target, with a move for Atalanta goalkeeper Ederson also reported to be close to completion as Carrick looks to overhaul the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The situation surrounding Rashford, meanwhile, has grown more complicated. The forward spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists, and had been eager to extend his stay at Camp Nou. However, his £26m release clause has now expired, removing what would have been a straightforward mechanism for a permanent deal.

Barcelona’s £70m signing of Anthony Gordon has also reduced their urgency to add another attacker, making a second loan or permanent switch less certain. United are now expected to take a more proactive stance in finding a resolution, with Rashford’s £325,000-per-week wages a significant factor in any outcome.

Bayern Munich and several Premier League clubs are reported to be monitoring Rashford’s availability closely, keeping options open on both sides as United and the player seek clarity on his long-term future.
