Trabzonspor president insists Onana's salary demands met as £20m Man Utd exit looms
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan says the Turkish club have satisfied Andre Onana's financial requirements and expects the Manchester United goalkeeper to stay permanently. United need around £20m from the sale to comply with Premier League PSR rules.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has declared that his club have met Andre Onana’s salary demands and expects the Manchester United goalkeeper to complete a permanent move to Turkey, with United requiring approximately £20 million from the deal to satisfy Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Onana spent last season on loan with the Turkish Super Lig side, winning the Turkish Cup and earning strong support from the club’s fanbase. Trabzonspor secured Europa League qualification during his stint, and Dogan is now pushing to make the arrangement permanent.
“I think Andre Onana will stay with the team,” Dogan told Ajansspor. “We’ve met his financial demands. The fans like him too. He’s a decent bloke. I don’t think we’ll have any problems. I don’t think he’ll find the same level of interest in him anywhere else. So I think he’ll stay with the team.”
Dogan had previously told HT Spor that he was hoping to finalise the deal “in the coming days”, adding: “We speak with Andre Onana almost every day. He loves it here. We want him to stay, but of course everyone has their own life and plans. We have to respect that.”
Despite Dogan’s confidence, United and Trabzonspor have yet to agree a transfer fee. The PSR obligation to raise around £20 million from the sale adds urgency to United’s side of the negotiation.
Complicating matters is Onana’s own reported preference. According to reports, the Cameroon international is keen to return to Old Trafford and challenge Senne Lammens for the starting position. The young Belgian goalkeeper excelled last season, however, establishing himself as Ruben Amorim’s first choice between the posts.
Fellow Super Lig club Besiktas have also been linked with a move for Onana, giving United at least some leverage should negotiations with Trabzonspor stall.
