Tottenham are closing in on a second summer signing, with talks to bring Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi to north London at an advanced stage, according to BBC Sport. The 29-year-old Argentine is out of contract at Bournemouth and would arrive on a Bosman transfer, joining a Spurs side that has already agreed terms in principle with Liverpool’s Andy Robertson.

Senesi is reported to have rejected three separate contract offers from Bournemouth before the club ended their attempts to keep him and he opened talks with clubs abroad. Despite that initial foreign interest, Spurs have emerged as his most likely destination, with BBC Sport describing the deal as “advancing towards completion” — though personal terms have not yet been fully agreed.

Bournemouth confirmed earlier this month that Senesi would be leaving the Vitality Stadium at the end of his contract. The former Feyenoord centre-back has been one of the more consistent defenders in the Premier League over recent seasons and attracted significant interest from multiple top-flight clubs.

The Senesi pursuit runs alongside Tottenham’s move for Robertson, who made his final Liverpool appearance on the last day of the 2024-25 season. The 32-year-old Scotland captain was the subject of a Spurs approach in the January transfer window — a deal that was agreed between the two clubs but ultimately did not go through — and the north Londoners now appear set to land him at the second attempt, despite reported interest from Juventus.

Both arrivals would align with the direction set out by chief executive Vinai Venkatesham following Tottenham’s survival on the final day of the Premier League season. Speaking publicly after the club narrowly avoided relegation, Venkatesham was candid about the scale of the rebuild required.

“The squad needs work and the squad hasn’t got the right balance,” he said. “We need experience and leadership and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists. We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical.”

Manager Roberto De Zerbi, who joined in April and is credited with steadying the club through the final weeks of the season, will now look to shape a squad capable of pushing back towards the upper reaches of the Premier League.
