Thomas Tuchel’s England squad were forced to shelter inside their Kansas City training base on Saturday after a tornado warning accompanied a heavy storm lashing the city, adding to a turbulent build-up ahead of their World Cup 2026 opener against Croatia.

The weather disruption is the latest setback for England, who had already dealt with the theft of training equipment prior to their arrival in Kansas City. Most of the stolen items have since been recovered, but the back-to-back incidents have cast an unsettled shadow over England’s preparations for their first match in Group L.

Elsewhere at the tournament, Scotland recorded their first World Cup victory in 36 years, edging Haiti 1-0 thanks to John McGinn’s goal to top Group C. The result came after Brazil and Morocco played out a draw in the same group, leaving Scotland in a strong position to advance to the knockout rounds.

Sunday brings further high-profile action, with Germany and the Netherlands both set to begin their campaigns as the tournament continues across North America.
