Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick, including a stunning long-range strike, as England beat Miami United FC 6-0 in a behind-closed-doors warm-up at their West Palm Beach training camp. Teenagers Rio Ngumoha and Ethan Nwaneri also scored, despite missing out on the final 26-man World Cup squad.
Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick as England beat Miami United FC 6-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at their West Palm Beach training camp on Thursday, continuing their preparations ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The striker’s haul included a spectacular long-range strike, according to reports from the closed fixture.
The match was not a standard 90-minute contest and was staged without key figures including captain Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Declan Rice. It followed England’s 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in their final official pre-tournament friendly in Orlando.
Jordan Henderson and Kobbie Mainoo also featured, with Henderson getting on the scoresheet alongside Liverpool’s 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha and Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri. Ngumoha, who also scored from distance, and Nwaneri are not part of Thomas Tuchel’s final 26-man squad and will return home before the tournament begins.
England will fly to Kansas City, their base for the World Cup, following the training camp. They open their Group L campaign against Croatia at Dallas Stadium in Texas on Wednesday 18 June, before facing Ghana and Panama.
Meanwhile, Kane has spoken candidly about the significance of this tournament to his career. The striker, who scored 61 goals for Bayern Munich last season, told ITV: “It could be your last because you never know what happens in football. You know what I’m like, I want to play for a long, long time. I feel in my prime, as fit as I’ve ever felt, that hunger is there but it could be my last.”
Kane, appearing at his third World Cup, added: “The World Cup, for me, is the pinnacle of any career. The shape I’m in and coming off the season I’ve had, it’s probably the best opportunity I’ll get in my career to win the World Cup.”
