Théo Hernandez names France, Spain and Germany as World Cup 2026 favourites
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, France defender Théo Hernandez has named his favourites for the 2026 World Cup, while calling for caution ahead of the opening match against Senegal on June 16.
Théo Hernandez has delivered his predictions for the 2026 World Cup in an interview with Spanish daily AS published on Wednesday, less than a week before France’s opening match against Senegal.
The left-back for Al-Hilal logically places France among the title contenders, but tempers expectations. “Everyone says we are the favourites to win the World Cup. But we must acknowledge that winning a World Cup is far from easy. Many teams are playing at an exceptional level.” He insists on the need to advance step by step: “We start on June 16 against Senegal, which will be our most important match, and we must approach this stage by stage.”
When asked about Spain under Lamine Yamal, Hernandez confirms the Roja’s favourite status, while broadening the circle of contenders. “Yes, of course, Spain is a favourite. But we are also in the race. I think Germany is also one to watch as well as other great teams.” He also warns against outsiders: “Even some teams that, at first glance, won’t give you any problems, can cause you trouble.”
On a personal level, the defender displays serene confidence after his season in Saudi Arabia. “I think I have worked very well this year. I feel good physically and I hope it will be a good World Cup for me and the whole team.”
