Sterling without a club after two Ligue 1 rejections, including from Le Havre

Raheem Sterling will not play in Ligue 1 this summer. According to Foot Mercato, the 31-year-old English winger was proposed to Le Havre and a second unidentified French club, but both clubs declined the offer.

Le Havre justified its refusal by citing an already saturated attacking sector. The Normandy club, which recruited Josh Maja from the Premier League, did not deem it necessary to add Sterling to an already well-stocked squad on the wings. The second club approached gave the same refusal.

Yet Sterling’s trophy cabinet remains impressive. Revealed at Liverpool in the early 2010s, he joined Manchester City in 2015 and won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups there, before reaching the Ligue des Champions final in 2021. His transfer to Chelsea in 2022 marked the beginning of a gradual decline: loaned to Arsenal during the 2024-2025 season without convincing, he then signed with Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he barely played.

Now without a contract, Sterling would reportedly be willing to significantly lower his salary demands. Offers from less prominent leagues have already been sent to him, and a move to one of these destinations seems increasingly likely if no top European club comes forward before the transfer window closes.
