Dorgu hamstring scare adds to Manchester United's six-player injury crisis during international break

Manchester United head into the international break managing six separate injury concerns after Patrick Dorgu was forced off in the 30th minute of Denmark’s Nations League clash against Wales on Sunday with a suspected hamstring problem. The 21-year-old has since left the Danish camp, joining Karl Darlow, Marcus Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo in returning to Carrington early.

Bruno Fernandes also missed Portugal’s trip to Oslo against Norway, with head coach Jorge Jesus revealing the captain had been carrying a problem for several weeks. “Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem,” Jesus said ahead of the Norway fixture. “He’s coming off an injury at United, and he told me he’s been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him. I prefer not to risk it in this game so he’s fully fit for the Denmark match.” Portugal’s next fixture on Thursday suggests Fernandes is not in serious danger, but the disclosure that he has been playing through discomfort will concern manager Michael Carrick.

Benjamin Sesko has been managing a shin complaint since pre-season, and his minutes were being carefully managed before he missed last weekend’s Premier League trip to Fulham. Carrick said after the Brighton match: “He just felt a little bit of pain after the game the other night. We’re assessing that. Hopefully it’s not too bad, but we will have to see.”

Amad has yet to appear in any of United’s seven league games this season due to an ankle problem, though Carrick confirmed the winger should return to full team training when domestic football resumes after the break.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt has not featured since November 2025 after a back injury that ultimately required surgery over the summer. Carrick has been cautious about setting a return date. “Matta is just working his way back, really. I don’t want to, because of how it’s been, put too much of a timeframe on it,” he said earlier this month.

Midfielder Manuel Ugarte remains a long-term absentee after sustaining a serious knee injury at the World Cup, while third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also unavailable. The cluster of issues leaves Carrick with limited options across multiple positions as United prepare to return to league action.
