Spain lead 2026 World Cup odds as France close gap with tournament 13 days away
Spain remain the narrow favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup at +450, but France have moved to +500 to close the gap on the defending Euro 2024 champions, with England third at +700 as the tournament approaches.
Spain enter the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the narrow betting favourites at +450, but France have cut the gap significantly since the groups were drawn in December, moving to +500 as the tournament — set to kick off on June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico — draws within two weeks.
When the group-stage draw was made, Spain opened at +450, England were second at +550, and France sat third at +750. The picture has shifted: France have moved up to +500, England have tightened to +700, and Spain have drifted only marginally from their original price, reflecting sustained confidence in Luis de la Fuente’s side following their Euro 2024 triumph.
Brazil and Portugal are joint fourth in the market at +850, with reigning world champions Argentina at +1000 and Germany at +1300. The Netherlands (+1600) and Belgium (+2200) round out the European contenders with realistic claims, while Norway’s emergence is reflected in a +3300 price.
Among the three host nations, the United States are the shortest in the market at +5000, the same price as Morocco and Japan. Mexico are listed at +5500 alongside Uruguay, while Canada — who have never won a World Cup match — are not among the named prices.
Spain’s case rests on a core of Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Rodri, a combination of creative depth and midfield control that powered their run to the European title last summer. The 2010 world champions have appeared in 16 previous tournaments.
France’s challenge centres on Kylian Mbappé, who arrives just five goals short of Miroslav Klose’s all-time World Cup scoring record of 16. The 26-year-old’s pursuit of that landmark adds an individual subplot to France’s bid for a third world title.
The United States squad is built around Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and Chris Richards, with the host nation’s best-ever finish being a semifinal appearance at the inaugural 1930 tournament. Mexico, who have reached the quarterfinals twice — in 1970 and 1986 — will look to Raúl Jiménez and Edson Álvarez to carry their campaign, while Canada’s hopes rest heavily on Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David.
The World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
