Slot turns down Fulham approach days after Liverpool sacking
Arne Slot has rejected an approach from Fulham to become their new head coach, less than a week after being dismissed by Liverpool. The 47-year-old, who won the Premier League in his debut season at Anfield, is said to be waiting for the right opportunity.
Arne Slot has turned down an approach from Fulham to become their new head coach, just days after being sacked by Liverpool last Saturday.
The 47-year-old Dutchman won the Premier League in his first season at Anfield but was dismissed following an unsatisfactory title defence. According to The Times, Slot has no interest in the Craven Cottage vacancy and is content to wait for the right opportunity before returning to management.
Fulham confirmed earlier this week that Marco Silva would leave the club when his contract expired. Silva is understood to be in line to replace José Mourinho as head coach of Benfica, with Mourinho set to take charge at Real Madrid.
Slot’s successor at Liverpool has already been confirmed, with Andoni Iraola — the outgoing Bournemouth manager — signing a two-year contract at Anfield. The 43-year-old impressed during his time on the south coast and was quickly identified as the club’s top target.
Despite the difficult end to his Liverpool tenure, Slot remains a sought-after figure in European football. He has already been mentioned as a candidate to take charge of the Netherlands national team after the 2026 World Cup.
Fulham’s search for a Silva replacement continues, with Kieran McKenna also identified as a target. The Ipswich Town manager, who guided the club back to the Premier League, would cost around £8 million in compensation — a significant outlay for a side that finished mid-table in the top flight this season.
