Sidelined by Inter after failed Marseille loan, Pavard in Besiktas' sights
Benjamin Pavard, left out of France's 2026 World Cup squad, is no longer in Inter Milan's plans following a disappointing loan spell at Olympique de Marseille. Besiktas is reportedly interested in the defender, who is under contract until June 2028.
Benjamin Pavard finds himself in a dead end at Inter Milan. After returning to the Nerazzurri following an unsuccessful loan at Olympique de Marseille, the 30-year-old defender is no longer part of coach Christian Chivu’s plans, having already been sidelined before his departure to Ligue 1.
The Marseille experience did not produce the desired results. Pavard had hoped to regain playing time and rediscover his best form at the Phocaean club, which gradually collapsed over the course of the season. OM did not exercise its purchase option, and the 2018 World Cup winner returned to Milan without convincing either his adopted team or French selectors: on May 14, he learned he would not be part of the French squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
Inter, for its part, won the Serie A title without him and confirmed that the chapter was definitively closed. The problem is that Pavard remains tied to the Milanese club until June 2028, with an annual net salary of 5 million euros. Purchased for 32 million euros from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, his market value is now estimated at 12 million euros according to Corriere dello Sport.
It was this same Italian sports daily that revealed Besiktas’ interest. The Turkish club would like to sign Pavard to strengthen its defence, and his salary level would not be an obstacle. The player, who says he is at ease at Inter, is nevertheless waiting for other offers to emerge before deciding on his future.
