Manchester United’s summer overhaul is well underway, with seven players already gone from Old Trafford and at least three more first-team regulars potentially following them out of the door before the transfer window closes.

Michael Carrick, confirmed as the club’s permanent manager after steering United to third in the Premier League last season, has moved quickly to reshape his squad. The early business includes an agreed deal to sign Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson, but the departures have been equally significant.

Casemiro’s exit was confirmed during the season itself. The 34-year-old Brazilian contributed nine league goals alongside his defensive work, and replacing that output will be one of Carrick’s most pressing tasks — a gap Ederson is expected to help fill.

Jadon Sancho has also left, his contract expiring five years after he arrived from Borussia Dortmund as a marquee signing. The 26-year-old never consistently produced his best form for the club and spent time on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa before his departure was confirmed.

Left-back Tyrell Malacia is another to have been released, having managed just three league appearances last season. Academy players Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe have also been let go as part of the wider squad restructure.

StrikerRasmus Hojlund’s move to Napoli was made permanent earlier this month, with the Italian club triggering a £38 million release clause after Antonio Conte’s side secured Champions League qualification. The 23-year-old had spent last season on loan at the club.

Among those whose futures remain unresolved, Marcus Rashford is the most prominent. The forward scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists during a loan spell at Barcelona, but the Catalan club declined to activate their £26 million purchase option. Barcelona have since signed Anthony Gordon in a similar position, casting further doubt over whether Rashford will return to Camp Nou. United are aware that a strong showing for England at the World Cup could raise his market value significantly.

Andre Onana is also reported to be weighing his options, with the goalkeeper’s situation at Old Trafford yet to be resolved ahead of what promises to be a demanding season across multiple competitions.
