Sesko faces MRI over possible chronic shin problem after missing United's Fulham draw

Benjamin Sesko is set to undergo an MRI scan in London after Manchester United manager Michael Carrick confirmed the striker felt pain in his shin following the club’s previous fixture against Brighton, forcing him to miss Sunday’s 0-0 Premier League draw with Fulham.

Carrick offered a cautious assessment when pressed for details. “He definitely wasn’t ready for today,” the United boss said. “I haven’t got any more news to give you, just that he felt pain on his shin. We are assessing him at the moment.”

The concern runs deeper than a routine knock. According to Slovenian outlet Ekipa, there is growing worry that because the injury mirrors the shin problem Sesko suffered last season, it may constitute a chronic issue — raising the prospect of a significant absence for both club and country.

Sesko only joined United from RB Leipzig last summer but already missed seven games through injury in his debut campaign, still managing 12 goals across 19 starts in all competitions. This season he had made six appearances, scoring against Everton in the Premier League and Sabah in the Champions League, before the latest setback.

The Slovenian forward is not United’s only fitness concern heading into the international break. Marcus Rashford was also substituted during the Fulham match, with Carrick admitting uncertainty over his condition. The situation proved serious enough for Rashford to withdraw from England’s forthcoming international fixtures.

United will be without both players during the break and will be hoping to have them available again in roughly three weeks, when the club faces Tottenham in their next Premier League fixture. The Red Devils have won just one of their opening five league games, leaving them 12th in the table.
