Sent to Trial for Rape, Hakimi Places PSG in Contract Dilemma
The Versailles Court of Appeal has confirmed Achraf Hakimi's referral to the departmental criminal court on rape charges. PSG, who have him under contract until June 2029, will have to decide his future in the event of a conviction.
The Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed on Friday Achraf Hakimi’s referral to the departmental criminal court on rape charges. The Morocco international, currently at the World Cup with Morocco, will therefore be tried soon, although no hearing date has yet been set.
The judicial timeline remains uncertain: the trial could take place several months after this referral, or even several years. For now, Paris Saint-Germain should fall back on the presumption of innocence and wait for the proceedings to take their course.
Hakimi is tied to the capital club until June 2029. In the event of a conviction, Paris executives would have several options: decide not to field the right-back, at least temporarily, consider a contract termination, or arrange a transfer. The choice would depend on the nature of the sentence handed down, its severity, and the contractual clauses in force.
The investigating magistrates determined that the charges gathered were sufficient to justify holding a trial. Keeping a player convicted of rape would expose PSG to a major image crisis. The player himself has already taken a public position: “I have been waiting for this trial since day one. And I am now waiting for it eagerly,” he wrote on his social media.
