Manchester City are weighing up a £50 million sale of Savinho to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with the 22-year-old winger having failed to establish himself as a consistent starter during his second season at the Etihad.

Spurs first pursued the Brazilian 12 months ago, only to be rebuffed by City, who instead handed Savinho a two-year contract extension that runs until 2031. Director of Football Hugo Viana was effusive at the time, declaring that the winger’s “potential is limitless” and expressing confidence he would become “a key part of our squad for many years to come.”

That assessment has not translated into playing time. Savinho accumulated fewer than 400 Premier League minutes last season, making only three starts and playing the full 90 minutes on just two occasions. He ranked 18th among City players for top-flight minutes, with 90 of his total coming in the final-day fixture when the squad was heavily rotated.

Several factors contributed to his diminished role. Jeremy Doku’s rapid improvement gave Pep Guardiola a more reliable option on the left flank, while Antoine Semenyo’s arrival and Rayan Cherki’s stellar campaign further crowded the attacking positions. Guardiola had publicly backed Savinho after a home win over Sunderland in early December, promising he would “play a lot of minutes”, but that confidence appeared to erode as the season’s decisive stages arrived.

Guardiola has now left the club, with Enzo Maresca appointed as his successor. That managerial change offers Savinho a theoretical fresh start, but City’s apparent willingness to sell suggests the incoming head coach has not been given reason to retain him.

Should a deal be agreed at around £50m, City would turn a profit on the £30m they paid for the former Troyes winger in 2024. Savinho, for his part, is understood to be open to a move to London, having previously hinted at interest in Spurs on social media during last summer’s transfer window.
