Saibari Joins Bayern Munich for €55M After Scoring Against Brazil
Ismael Saibari, who scored Morocco's equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Brazil on the opening day of the 2026 World Cup, is leaving PSV Eindhoven for Bayern Munich. Fabrizio Romano confirms the transfer, valued at €55 million, is complete.
Ismael Saibari is set to join Bayern Munich from PSV Eindhoven for €55 million, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer was officially confirmed on Monday, with the medical examination to be held in the United States, where Morocco is competing in the 2026 World Cup.
The timing is striking: just hours earlier, the 23-year-old Moroccan forward had scored the equalising goal against Brazil on the opening day of the tournament, slipping between Marquinhos and Gabriel before beating Alisson with a precise finish to secure the final 1-1 draw.
However, the link between this performance and the transfer should be put into perspective. Romano had already mentioned advanced discussions between the two clubs two weeks ago, well before the competition kicked off. The World Cup therefore merely accompanied, rather than triggered, this move to Bavaria.
A versatile attacking midfielder capable of playing centrally or on the wing, Saibari has been used as a striker by manager Mohamed Ouahbi since the start of the tournament. At Bayern, he is expected to strengthen an attacking department in search of depth and creativity.
His departure from PSV fits the trajectory of a rising generation of Moroccan players on the European stage. Achraf Hakimi plays for Paris Saint-Germain, Brahim Diaz for Real Madrid, and young Ayyoub Bouaddi, the revelation of the match against Brazil at just 18 years old, should also attract the attention of top clubs in the coming weeks.
Semi-finalists at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and finalists of the last Africa Cup of Nations, the Lions of the Atlas confirmed their status in this opening match of the 2026 World Cup, holding their own against the Seleção in a high-intensity encounter.
