Saha urges Man United to sign Osimhen, claiming Nigerian striker is 'still waiting' for the move

Louis Saha has claimed Victor Osimhen is still hoping Manchester United will sign him, describing the Galatasaray striker as a lifelong fan of the club who has been waiting for the Reds to make their move.

Saha told Metro that United’s failure to act has been the only obstacle. “All United have to do is make the connection, but that’s why it hasn’t happened yet,” he said. “Osimhen is still waiting. United missed out on signing Harry Kane, and that was one of their biggest mistakes in the transfer market. But they can correct that mistake by signing Osimhen.”

The former United forward went further, arguing that Osimhen would actually complement the club’s reported primary target, Benjamin Sesko, rather than compete with him. “I think Osimhen is a better fit for United now than Kane because of Benjamin Sesko,” Saha said. “Osimhen can teach Sesko about movement and being a striker, but they could also play together and combine better than Kane and Sesko could.”

Saha also cited a personal connection as a factor. “I know for a fact that Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United fan. He loves Man United. I have seen it in his eyes: the impact the club has on him, and he sees the impact he could have on this team.”

Patrice Evra echoed the sentiment, stating United need “a striker, someone who scores a goal” and identifying Osimhen as “the best” and “a perfect example” of what the club requires.

Despite the enthusiasm from former players, the financial reality of a deal presents a significant hurdle. Galatasaray are paying Osimhen substantial wages — an arrangement made more attractive by Turkey’s effective 20 per cent tax rate on player earnings, compared to 45 per cent in the United Kingdom. Any move would require a considerable transfer fee on top, making the deal difficult to justify economically.

Osimhen, 27, has been in strong form this season, scoring five goals and registering three assists in his first three Super Lig appearances, directly contributing to seven of Galatasaray’s nine league goals. That output continues the form he showed during his loan spell, in which he scored 37 goals in 41 games across all competitions. In the Champions League alone he netted seven times and added an assist across ten appearances.

United have been linked with the Nigeria international across several transfer windows, but with Galatasaray showing no urgency to sell and the wage gap between the two countries significant, a move this month remains unlikely despite the calls from Saha and Evra.
