Achraf Hakimi delivered one of the best performances of his Paris career on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick and providing two assists as PSG defeated Le Havre 5-1 in Ligue 1. But behind the scenes, the situation is taking an unexpected turn.

According to L’Équipe, the Hakimi camp has cooled the capital club’s initial approach regarding a contract extension. PSG had made contact in recent days to initiate discussions, hoping to secure the future of one of its key players. An approach that did not generate the expected enthusiasm: the player and his entourage believe it is still too early to address the matter.

This first setback does not necessarily mean a departure is on the agenda. Arriving in Paris in 2021, the 26-year-old Morocco international is under contract until June 2029, which gives PSG a comfortable margin to restart discussions at the appropriate time.

On the pitch, Hakimi continues to establish himself as one of the indispensable players in Luis Enrique’s system. His performance against Le Havre is the latest illustration. After the match, the Spanish coach was full of praise: “We know his quality perfectly. He is an attacker. He is higher than the attackers sometimes. He is the best right-back in the world. I am not excited by his three goals. What I like is to see him at the very highest level all the time.”

The question of when Hakimi will be ready to open discussions about his future remains open, even if there is no urgency.
