Roy Keane threatens to emigrate to Australia if England win the World Cup
The former Manchester United captain made the tongue-in-cheek declaration during a road-trip mini-series with Micah Richards, admitting England's deep runs in tournaments make him nervous.
Roy Keane has declared he would emigrate to Australia if England win the 2026 World Cup, delivering the quip during the second episode of the Road To America mini-series alongside Micah Richards and guest Stuart Pearce.
“I don’t want England winning it,” Keane said. “When we’re working over there and they get through knockout games, there’s a bit of excitement, and that’s when I start to get worried. If England won it, I’d be emigrating to Australia.”
Keane is set to work as a pundit for ITV during the tournament, where the broadcaster is covering England’s group-stage fixtures. The Irishman’s well-documented ambivalence toward England’s fortunes has long been a feature of his punditry, and the Road To America series appears designed to lean into that dynamic.
The Road To America mini-series pairs Keane with his regular sparring partner Richards for a pre-tournament road trip, with Pearce among the guests joining them ahead of the competition kicking off.
