Manchester City midfielder Rodri has said he has not considered his club future and remains fully focused on Spain’s World Cup campaign, despite growing speculation over whether he will stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond the final year of his contract.

Speaking from the United States ahead of Spain’s Group H opener against Cape Verde, the 29-year-old dismissed suggestions linking him with a move to Real Madrid. “I haven’t even thought about my future. My focus is on the World Cup. I’m under contract at Man City,” Rodri told Cadena Ser’s El Larguero, responding to reports that former Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme had declared he would sign the midfielder if elected.

Rodri had previously attracted headlines during the season when Spanish media reported he had expressed an ambition to play for Real Madrid one day. He later said those comments were taken out of context. The uncertainty around his future has intensified this summer as City undergo significant change, with Bernardo Silva and John Stones both departing and head coach Pep Guardiola also leaving the club.

On the fitness front, Rodri acknowledged a difficult season disrupted by a groin injury sustained late in the campaign, though he recovered in time to feature in City’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea. He is now adamant that the careful management of his workload has left him in exceptional condition.

“I’m in the best physical shape I’ve ever been in, and above all, I’m in a condition I’ve never been in before, with few matches and a light workload. That’s going to give me a lot of breathing room,” he said. “I’m very happy with how I’ve managed the process.”

Rodri described the season as one of deliberate adaptation, with the World Cup as his primary target from the outset. “You have to adapt to arrive in the best possible condition. It’s been an important year, a time to rediscover the feeling of growth and with a clear objective in mind,” he added.

After Monday’s match against Cape Verde, Spain face Saudi Arabia on 21 June before concluding their Group H campaign against Uruguay on 27 June.
