Richarlison convicted of running red light in £60k Corvette after rejecting retraining course
Tottenham forward Richarlison was convicted at Barkingside Magistrates' Court after being caught driving through a red light on north London's A41 in his £60,000 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The 29-year-old, frozen out by manager Roberto De Zerbi this season, received a £200 fine and three penalty points.
Tottenham forward Richarlison has been convicted of failing to comply with a red traffic signal after being filmed driving his £60,000 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray through a red light on the A41 in Hendon, north London. A hearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court last week resulted in a £200 fine, three penalty points on his licence, and orders to pay £120 in prosecution costs plus an £80 victim surcharge.
A camera mounted on the A41 recorded the 29-year-old Brazilian passing through the traffic signals 1.5 seconds after they had turned red, at 6.45pm on 15 April. Court papers reveal the Metropolitan Police initially offered Richarlison the opportunity to avoid criminal prosecution by completing a driver retraining course, which he declined. He was then given the option to settle the matter with a fine, and while he transferred the money, he failed to submit a copy of his driving licence as required.
As a result, Richarlison was prosecuted through the Single Justice Procedure, entering a written guilty plea without providing any mitigation. The hearing was conducted behind closed doors, and a police worker told the court that Richarlison had confirmed in writing that he was the driver of the vehicle when it was filmed.
The conviction adds to a difficult period for the striker, who has been frozen out at Spurs under new manager Roberto De Zerbi this season. A proposed return to former club Everton collapsed at the eleventh hour, and Richarlison has not featured for Tottenham since starting their 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening day of the campaign.
Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton in 2022 and was a key figure in the club’s Premier League survival last season. He has earned 54 caps for Brazil and scored 20 international goals, but has not been selected for the national side since October 2025, having fallen out of favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti ahead of this year’s World Cup.
