Social unrest: Lorient-Brest postponed, Nice-Rennes and Lyon-Angers threatened on October 31
For the third consecutive week, Saturday social movements are disrupting Ligue 1's schedule. The Lorient-Brest match from Matchday 9 has already been postponed to Monday, November 2, while Nice-Rennes and Lyon-Angers remain uncertain.
Saturday social movements continue to disrupt Ligue 1’s calendar. At the request of the Morbihan prefecture, the Professional Football League has officially postponed Lorient-Brest, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at 8:45 p.m., to Monday, November 2 at the same time.
This is the third consecutive week that demonstrations have weighed on the championship’s organization. Saturday, October 17 had been particularly turbulent, and the weekend of October 24, marked by fewer incidents, had nonetheless maintained a high level of mobilization. That last weekend, the requisitioning of law enforcement around sensitive points notably led to the postponement of PSG-OL, the closing match of Matchday 8, to Monday evening.
For Matchday 9, two other fixtures remain uncertain. Nice-Rennes (5:15 p.m.) and Lyon-Angers (8:45 p.m.), both scheduled for Saturday, October 31, are subject to questions within the concerned prefectures. In the Alpes-Maritimes, the prefecture would lean toward a postponement, an option that would not necessarily suit Stade Rennais. The Breton club must indeed play a Ligue Europa match against Olympiacos on Thursday, November 5, a meeting that could itself be moved forward to Wednesday, November 4 due to social movements announced that day.
