Real Sociedad are willing to sell goalkeeper Alex Remiro to Barcelona this summer for a fee in the region of €8-10m, according to MD, with the Basque club now resigned to losing the 31-year-old after accepting he wants to move on from Anoeta.

Barcelona have held talks with Remiro’s representatives in recent months as they look to add competition for first-choice goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The club are satisfied with Garcia as their number one but want a genuine challenger for the starting spot, particularly given that Wojciech Szczesny’s future at Camp Nou remains uncertain and could see him drop further down the pecking order or depart altogether.

Remiro has emerged as Barcelona’s preferred option to fill that role. La Real initially attempted to block any transfer, but club officials have since shifted position after acknowledging that the Spain international is determined to pursue the next stage of his career elsewhere.

Any move for Remiro is not straightforward, however. Barcelona’s ability to complete the signing depends directly on offloading Marc-André ter Stegen and Iñaki Peña, neither of whom feature in Hansi Flick’s plans for next season. Without selling at least one — and ideally both — the squad would have no room for an additional goalkeeper, making their departures a prerequisite rather than a bonus.

The club are hopeful that suitors can be found for ter Stegen and Peña before the window closes, which would then free them to formalise a deal with Real Sociedad. For now, Barcelona can at least take confidence from knowing that La Real’s asking price is set and that the player’s desire to move is not in question.

The Remiro pursuit is one of several moves Barcelona are planning as they navigate their first summer transfer window back under La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule. The club have already moved to sign Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, and further additions are expected before the new season begins.
