RC Lens successfully passed its annual review before the DNCG on Wednesday, with the commission imposing no measures against the club. The news comes as Lens prepares to compete in the Champions League after finishing second in Ligue 1 under Pierre Sage’s direction.

The club confirmed the favorable outcome in a statement: “As part of the annual examination of clubs’ situations for the 2026-2027 season, Racing’s management presented itself before the Professional Clubs Control Commission on Wednesday. Following this hearing, no measures were imposed against the club.”

This financial approval comes amid significant sporting transition. Pierre Sage, the architect of Lens’s second-place finish, left the club for Crystal Palace. Several key players followed him, leaving the next manager facing a major rebuilding task.

Olivier Pantaloni appears to be the favorite to take charge of the squad, after Patrick Videira ultimately decided to stay at Le Mans. Whoever succeeds Sage will have to work with limited budget flexibility. The stated objective is to build a competitive squad for the Champions League while remaining within the limits set by the DNCG — whose next review is already on everyone’s minds.
