Marcus Rashford has no interest in joining Newcastle United or Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to reports, as Barcelona’s deadline to sign him permanently draws closer. The Catalan club hold an option to buy the Manchester United forward for £26 million, but must exercise that clause by mid-June or see it expire.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, and Spurs are all said to be monitoring Rashford’s situation, per The Mirror, but the England international is reportedly uninterested in moves to either of the latter two clubs. That narrows the field considerably if Barcelona walk away.

Manchester United are also said to be reluctant to sell Rashford to another Premier League club, a stance that could create a significant impasse should the Spanish giants end their pursuit. Rashford spent the first half of 2025 on loan at Aston Villa before joining Barcelona on a temporary basis, and has spoken openly throughout the season about his desire to remain at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona’s position is complicated by their recent signing of Anthony Gordon, which adds further uncertainty to whether they will commit to the Rashford purchase. Newcastle, aware of that uncertainty, have been keeping tabs on the situation.

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick, who worked with Rashford during his time at United, declined to rule out a return for the academy graduate when asked about him in April. “I just think there are decisions to be made in time, really, on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,” Carrick said. “But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided. And it will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say.”

Carrick added that he was reluctant to comment on Rashford’s individual case given the uncertainties still surrounding his future. “There are obviously players on loan, and whatever happens with that later on will happen with that later on,” he said. “I’m not going on the Marcus individual one because I think, to comment either way at this stage, it’s not the right thing to do because there are uncertainties for sure.”

With the Barcelona option set to expire in the coming days, United face a pivotal decision about one of their most high-profile academy products — one that could reshape the club’s summer transfer strategy regardless of the outcome.
