Rashford posts 'keep it moving' message as Barcelona permanent deal grows uncertain
Marcus Rashford has responded to mounting uncertainty over his future with a cryptic Instagram post, after Barcelona's £69m signing of Anthony Gordon cast doubt on whether the club will exercise their £26m option to sign the Manchester United forward permanently.
Marcus Rashford has signalled his determination to press on amid growing doubt over his future, posting a three-word Instagram message — “Keep it moving” — as Barcelona’s window to sign him permanently edges closer to expiring.
Rashford spent the 2024-25 season on loan at the Camp Nou after making clear his desire to leave Manchester United last summer. The 28-year-old delivered an impressive campaign in Spain, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions — form that earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Barcelona hold an option to sign Rashford permanently for £26 million, but that clause is approaching its expiry date and the club’s recent activity in the transfer market has complicated matters. Anthony Gordon officially joined Barcelona from Newcastle United on Friday in a deal reported to be worth £69.3 million, and with Gordon typically operating in the same wide positions as Rashford, the Spanish club’s need for another forward in that mould has diminished.
Further complicating Rashford’s prospects at the Camp Nou, Spanish outlet Sport has reported that Barcelona are pursuing a free transfer for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, who is leaving the club this summer. Should that move materialise, the report suggests Barcelona would not pursue a permanent deal for Rashford.
Rashford’s final appearance in a Barcelona shirt came earlier this month, and his next destination remains unresolved. If he returns to United without a permanent buyer, head coach Michael Carrick would face a significant decision over whether to reintegrate him into the first-team squad or facilitate another departure. Arsenal are among several clubs reported to have shown interest in the forward in recent weeks.
