Rashford ignoring Bayern Munich calls as Barcelona weigh £26m permanent deal
Marcus Rashford is reportedly refusing to engage with Bayern Munich's interest and remains focused solely on a permanent move to Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists on loan this season. Barcelona have until June 15 to activate a £26m purchase option.
Marcus Rashford is not taking calls from Bayern Munich and wants only a permanent move to Barcelona, according to Spanish publication Marca, as the clock ticks on the Catalan club’s option to buy the Manchester United forward.
Barcelona have until June 15 to activate a £26 million purchase clause included in the loan agreement that brought Rashford to the club for the 2025/26 season. Reports from Spain suggest the La Liga champions are hesitant to pay the agreed fee and may attempt to renegotiate the terms, casting doubt over whether the 28-year-old’s stay will extend beyond this summer.
Bundesliga side Bayern Munich have been linked as an alternative destination, with reports claiming they are willing to match United’s valuation of the England international. However, Bayern are said to be reluctant to meet Rashford’s wage demands, and Marca report that Rashford himself has no interest in joining Vincent Kompany’s side regardless — and is not responding to their approaches. The German club have made no concrete offer at this stage.
Manchester United, for their part, have no intention of reintegrating Rashford into their first-team squad, meaning a return to Old Trafford appears firmly off the table.
Rashford’s loan spell in Catalonia has been a considerable success. He netted 14 goals and contributed 14 assists across all competitions, playing a key role in Barcelona’s La Liga title and Spanish Supercopa victories. His campaign included a goal against Real Madrid in El Clasico on May 10.
Head coach Hansi Flick has spoken positively about working with Rashford but stopped short of committing to any long-term plans. “I’m very happy with Marcus. He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal,” Flick said after the Clasico. “I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.”
Rashford himself reflected on the title win with evident satisfaction. “It’s really good. I come here to win,” he said after Barcelona clinched the Spanish top-flight crown. “This team is a wonderful team. They’re going to win so much in the future as well.”
With the June 15 deadline approaching, Barcelona’s decision on whether to pay the agreed fee — or successfully renegotiate it — will determine where Rashford plays his football next season.
