Rashford ignores Bayern Munich approaches as Barcelona permanent deal hangs in the balance
Marcus Rashford is refusing to engage with Bayern Munich's interest and remains focused solely on securing a permanent move to Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists on loan in 2025/26. Barcelona have until June 15 to trigger a £26m purchase option, though they are reportedly seeking to renegotiate the fee.
Marcus Rashford is not responding to approaches from Bayern Munich and wants only a permanent transfer to Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet Marca, as the deadline for the Catalan club to trigger their £26m purchase option approaches on June 15.
The Manchester United forward spent the 2025/26 season on loan at the Camp Nou, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions and playing a significant role in Barcelona’s La Liga title and Spanish Supercopa victories. Despite that productive campaign, Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to pay the agreed purchase clause and may attempt to renegotiate the fee with United.
Reports in The Sun claimed Bayern Munich are willing to meet United’s asking price for the 28-year-old, but the German champions are said to be unwilling to match Rashford’s substantial wage demands. Marca add that no formal bid has been submitted by Bayern, and that Rashford has shown no interest in joining Vincent Kompany’s side regardless.
Manchester United, for their part, are understood to have no intention of reintegrating Rashford into their first-team squad should a permanent exit fail to materialise.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick spoke warmly about Rashford after the forward scored against Real Madrid in El Clásico on May 10, though he stopped short of committing to his future at the club. “I’m very happy with Marcus. He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal,” Flick said. “I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.”
Rashford himself offered an upbeat assessment of his time in Catalonia after Barcelona clinched the La Liga title. “It’s really good. I come here to win,” he told reporters. “I want to win as many things as I can. This team is a wonderful team — they’re going to win so much in the future as well. So, to be a part of that would be special. We will see.”
With the June 15 deadline looming, the coming days are likely to prove decisive in determining whether Rashford’s stint in Spain becomes a permanent arrangement or forces United to revisit their options for the player.
