Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen following a single-vehicle collision on the M3 on 28 May 2026. The 31-year-old is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman confirmed that Sterling, from Berkshire, was arrested after his black Lamborghini 4x4 was involved in a collision on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen,” the spokesman said. “The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.”

Sterling is currently without a club after a turbulent 18 months. He terminated his contract with Chelsea in January 2026 to join Feyenoord on a short-term deal, where he was managed by former Premier League striker Robin van Persie. The move yielded no goals or assists across eight appearances before the arrangement came to an end.

The crash occurred shortly after his stint in the Netherlands concluded. A four-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, Sterling has also represented Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea during a career that once made him one of England’s most prominent attackers.

He has spent the summer searching for a new club without success, while also coaching at his own RS7 Academy during the off-season.
