Mahrez leaves Saudi Arabia for Al-Wasl in Dubai, two-year deal agreed

Riyad Mahrez has reportedly found his new club: the Algerian international, free since his departure from Al-Ahli on July 1st, has agreed terms with Al-Wasl, a club based in Dubai, according to information from journalist Pablo Oliveira.

At 35 years old, the former Manchester City winger has reportedly signed a two-year contract with a third year as an option. Al-Wasl has offered him an annual salary of €7.5 million, to which bonuses of up to an additional €1 million could be added.

Mahrez was also being monitored by two Saudi clubs, Al-Shabab and Al-Ettifaq, but the Algerian reportedly preferred the United Arab Emirates to a return to Saudi Arabia. With Al-Wasl, he will notably compete in the AFC Champions League, a competition he had already won during his spell at Al-Ahli.

On the international stage, Mahrez announced his retirement from the Algerian national team following Algeria’s elimination in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. He intends to continue his club career, however, and this move to Dubai would constitute his third chapter outside Europe after his spells at Manchester City and in Saudi Arabia.
