Racing Santander lifted the Segunda División title on Matchday 42 after a thumping win over Cádiz, while Mirandés were relegated to the third tier following a 1-0 loss at Leganés — a result that settled the last remaining question of the 2025-26 season.

Racing had already secured promotion two games earlier, but the title was still up for grabs heading into the final weekend. Deportivo La Coruña, who had sealed their own top-flight return last time out, fell to a 2-1 defeat against Las Palmas, handing Racing the championship by two points.

Play-off places confirmed after final-day drama

The four promotion play-off berths were not decided until the final whistle. Almería finished third on 74 points after Sergio Arribas — the division’s top scorer with 25 goals — netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over Real Valladolid. Málaga secured fourth with a 2-0 victory over already-relegated Real Zaragoza in Aragón. Las Palmas claimed fifth with their win over Deportivo, edging out Burgos, who beat Andorra 1-0 but could not overtake the four sides above them. Castellón took the final play-off spot in sixth on 72 points, level with Burgos, after their own victory on the day.

The semi-final draw sets up Castellón against Almería, with the first leg on 6 June and the return on 9 June, both at 21:00 CEST. Las Palmas host Málaga in the other semi-final on 7 June, with the return on 10 June. The final first leg is scheduled for 14 June, with the second leg on 20 June.

Mirandés relegated by a single goal

Mirandés needed a win at Leganés’ Butarque stadium to preserve their Segunda status, and they were on course until the 68th minute, when Álex Millán’s goal settled the match 1-0. The result confirmed Mirandés as the third and final relegated side of the season, dropping them into the third tier.
