Quevin Castro, 25, dies after collapsing during friendly match for Real Massama

Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro collapsed on the pitch just 10 minutes into Real Massama's friendly against FC Serpa on Saturday and was pronounced dead at hospital. Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro died on Saturday at the age of 25 after collapsing during Real Massama’s friendly against FC Serpa at the Estadio das Seixas in Portugal. The 25-year-old had been on the pitch for just 10 minutes when he fell to the ground.

Medical teams from both clubs immediately rushed onto the field to assist Castro. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, a defibrillator was deployed at the scene in an attempt to revive the central midfielder. Healthcare professionals also responded quickly, and Castro was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite the sustained efforts of medical staff.

The match between Real Massama and FC Serpa was subsequently postponed. Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora issued a statement confirming the news: “Estrela da Amadora hereby expresses its deepest sorrow for the passing of Quevin Castro, player for Real Massama. At this moment of profound sadness, Estrela da Amadora extends its most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Quevin Castro, as well as to the entire Real Massamá structure. Our thoughts are with all those close to him. Rest in peace, Quevin.”

Castro, a Portuguese talent who had previously been part of the West Bromwich Albion setup, had been playing for Real Massama at the time of his death. He was 25 years old.
