Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal face Spain in the World Cup last 16, with both sides targeting a place in the quarter-finals where the winner will meet either the United States or Belgium.

Spain arrive as the only nation yet to concede at this tournament, keeping clean sheets in all four of their games — a feat no European side had managed through the opening four matches of a World Cup since Switzerland in 2006. One more shutout against Portugal would make La Roja the first team in history to record six consecutive World Cup clean sheets, a run that stretches back to the 2022 edition.

Portugal, meanwhile, will lean heavily on Ronaldo, who turned in a commanding performance to help Martinez’s side edge past Croatia in the round of 32. The 41-year-old is appearing at his sixth and final World Cup and has shown little sign of letting the occasion pass without impact.

The match kicks off at 8pm UK time on Monday.

Gabby Logan presents coverage from 7:30pm, with a punditry panel that includes Wayne Rooney, former Spain international Cesar Azpilicueta, Ellen White, and Spanish football journalist and broadcaster Guillem Balague. Azpilicueta, who earned 44 caps for Spain between 2013 and 2023, brings direct experience of the national setup, having also won two Premier League titles and a Champions League during a decorated club career at Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla. Steve Bower leads on commentary, with Danny Murphy alongside him.
