Mbappé responds to Paraguayan senator after racist attack
After France's qualification at Paraguay's expense in the 2026 World Cup round of 16, Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla made openly racist remarks targeting Kylian Mbappé. The France captain responded directly, and the FFF has referred the matter to prosecutors.
Kylian Mbappé publicly responded to Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she made racist remarks about him, following Paraguay’s elimination by France in the 2026 World Cup round of 16.
Amarilla had written on social media: “An idiot who didn’t even learn to write, instead of mother’s milk he sucked coconuts and the smartest thing he ever heard was chimpanzees.” Remarks directly targeting the France captain and goalscorer.
Mbappé chose to respond himself via his X account. “You are a despicable woman unworthy of your position,” he wrote. “Through your recklessness and uninhibited racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and historic effort your players made during this World Cup, only to be overshadowed by an incompetent woman giving the worst possible image of her country.” The Real Madrid forward concluded: “I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hate and racism across the world.”
The French Football Federation also reacted, announcing a referral to prosecutors. “The racist remarks made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla targeting Kylian Mbappé are totally abhorrent and unacceptable. These remarks are unlawful and condemnable. The FFF is making a referral to prosecutors for judicial proceedings,” the federation stated on Monday.
