Polastri's first-round head kick flattens Xiong Jingnan at UFC Shanghai
Brazilian fighter Julia Polastri delivered the knockout of her career at UFC Shanghai on Saturday, stopping former ONE Championship flyweight queen Xiong Jingnan with a devastating right head kick in the first round.
Julia Polastri stopped Xiong Jingnan with a thunderous right head kick in the first round of their strawweight bout on the UFC Shanghai prelims on Saturday, handing the former ONE Championship flyweight queen her second straight UFC defeat.
The finish came after a brief but intense exchange near the fence. Xiong had been comfortable trading in close quarters early on, but that willingness to stay in the pocket proved costly. Polastri landed a right hand that set up a right head kick, which connected flush and sent Xiong to the canvas unconscious before she even landed.
The victory marks a significant rebound for Polastri, who had suffered a defeat to Talita Alencar in April. For Xiong, the loss extends a difficult run in the UFC, dropping her record in the promotion to 0-2 after a career that saw her become a dominant champion in ONE Championship.
Despite the spectacular nature of the finish, Polastri will not receive a Performance of the Night bonus. Both fighters missed weight ahead of the bout, making the knockout ineligible for post-fight awards under UFC rules — a bitter footnote to what would otherwise have been a career-defining moment.
