Pogba Under Pressure at Monaco: Possible Departure After Just 115 Minutes Played
Arriving at AS Monaco in summer 2025, Paul Pogba played only 115 minutes last season. The club's general manager, Thiago Scuro, openly discussed a possible departure this summer.
Paul Pogba could leave AS Monaco as early as this summer, just one year after his arrival, following a season reduced to 115 minutes of play. Thiago Scuro, the club’s general manager, acknowledged on Wednesday at a press conference that “the project didn’t work out well last season.”
The former French international midfielder, 33, has spent four years hampered by injuries and a doping suspension. Between 2021 and 2025, he played just 17 matches across all competitions. His spell at Juventus Turin, followed by his signing with Monaco in summer 2025, failed to revive a stalled career.
Under contract until June 2027 with the Principality club, Pogba earns €2.28 million per year — a wage bill that AS Monaco struggles to bear as it must reduce its payroll to meet DNCG requirements.
“It’s a very complicated subject. We have a lot of respect for the person first. When he arrived here, he was very positive, he helped the young players. But the truth is also that the project didn’t work out well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different,” Scuro said.
Nevertheless, the Monaco executive did not definitively close the door. The summer will serve as an observation period before any decision: “We have to be fair with him, watch his preparation each week, see how he has progressed physically and technically. After that, it will be a coaching decision, whether Filipe Luis will give him playing time or not. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course. With Paul, the relationship has always been open and transparent. If, at some point, the player’s and club’s objectives differ, we need to find a solution.”
Pogba will therefore need to convince new manager Filipe Luis during summer preparation that his physical condition justifies a place in the Monaco squad — otherwise, an amicable departure seems the most likely outcome.
