Man City sell academy defender Galvez to Go Ahead Eagles with buy-back clause
Manchester City have permanently sold left-back Tom Galvez to Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles for around £427,000, inserting a 30 per cent sell-on clause and a buy-back option into the deal. The sale takes City's total summer outgoings past £25m.
Manchester City have completed the permanent sale of academy left-back Tom Galvez to Eredivisie club Go Ahead Eagles for approximately £427,000, with the deal including a 30 per cent sell-on clause and a buy-back option in City’s favour.
Galvez joined City’s academy as a 16-year-old from Watford but never made a senior appearance under Pep Guardiola. Despite that, the 21-year-old built a credible profile elsewhere — earning international caps for Finland and spending last season on loan at Cambuur in the Dutch second division, where he was a regular starter as the club won promotion to the Eredivisie.
Those performances attracted Go Ahead Eagles, who finished 12th in the Eredivisie last season and notably defeated Aston Villa in the opening stage of the Europa League. Galvez will now look to establish himself in the top flight of Dutch football after stepping up from the second tier.
The two protective clauses City inserted are standard practice for the club when selling academy graduates. The sell-on percentage ensures City benefit financially if Galvez develops into a more valuable asset, while the buy-back option gives Guardiola’s staff the ability to reclaim him should he impress.
The Galvez fee pushes City’s total summer sales past the £25m mark, a figure that also includes transfer income from Manu Akanji, Nathan Ake, and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. On the spending side, City have committed £137.5m to the signings of Elliot Anderson and Mathys Detourbet.
