Djordje Petrovic’s calamitous pass gifted Kevin Schade his second goal of the afternoon as Brentford snatched a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium, denying Bournemouth manager Marco Rose a first Premier League victory in his fourth attempt.

The Cherries had looked on course for three points after Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier overturned Schade’s 34th-minute opener, only for Petrovic’s error to hand the German winger a simple lob into an empty net and extend Bournemouth’s run of dropping points from winning positions to four matches in a row.

Brentford’s goal arrived against the run of play. Petrovic’s wayward pass released Schade in behind, and the forward coolly lobbed over the stranded goalkeeper to preserve the Bees’ unbeaten start to the season. It was a moment that summed up a deeply frustrating afternoon for the south-coast club, who also saw Antonio Silva head wide unmarked from six yards, winger Rayan sky a gilt-edged chance over an open goal, and substitute Ben Gannon-Doak strike the woodwork deep into stoppage time.

Brentford had taken the lead when Yegor Yarmolyuk’s precise cross from the right found Schade, whose header deflected off Petrovic’s fingertips and the base of the post and into the net. Bournemouth responded well, with Kluivert levelling by swivelling to fire through Jaidon Anthony’s legs after the ball broke loose from Kristoffer Ajer’s tackle on Evanilson.

The hosts went ahead on 52 minutes through Tavernier, who converted after Caoimhin Kelleher could only parry Evanilson’s touch back across goal. Bournemouth pressed for a third but could not find it, and Petrovic’s error ultimately proved decisive.

Brentford move to six points from a possible 12 following a third consecutive draw, while Bournemouth remain on three points and face a trip to Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.
